INTRODUCTION Bacterial infections at surgical sites and surgical wounds are fairly common despite aseptic measures. Surgical site infections are responsible for delayed wound healing, prolonged stay in hospital, increased cost of therapy and are also important determinants of morbidity and mortality of the patient.
