Blame It On My Youth is a compilation of poems and stories written by students and alumni of Ghent University, Belgium. The anthology revolves around the themes of ‘growing up’ and ‘being young’. From the luxuriously lyrical to the darkly ironic, from the playfully lighthearted to the deeply serious, the book travels across a range of genres, styles, and topics. All the pieces can be read independently, but due to the chosen order of the pieces, the book in its entirety also tells a story of its own. Blame It On My Youth introduces a highly heterogeneous group of voices with different backgrounds, areas of study, and interests; what connects them is that they all discovered their passion for writing behind the school benches. With this book, the initiators hope to encourage this passion, and to inspire other student-writers to never stop writing.

This volume brings together a massive body of much-needed research information on a problem of crucial importance to labor economists, policy makers, and society in general: unemployment among the young. The thirteen studies detail the ambiguity and inadequacy of our present standard statistics as applied to youth employment, point out the error in many commonly accepted views, and show that many critically important aspects of this problem are not adequately understood. These studies also supply a significant amount of raw data, furnish a platform for further research and theoretical work in labor economics, and direct attention to promising avenues for future programs.

"Youth Poets documents an ethnographic study of the literacy learning of urban high school youth in June Jordan's Poetry for the People program. The book emphasizes how seven students adopted empowering literacies as they read, wrote, published, and performed poetry in and outside of school. Using a sociocultural and critical framework on literacy and pedagogy, the book focuses on the experiences of urban youth-from their own perspectives - to examine the various processes, products, and practices associated with poetry. It contributes to current research on literacy pedagogy in urban contexts, and further grounds connections between poetry production and academic and critical literacies. Not only does the research presented here support the use of poetry in itself, but it makes a case for the ways in which poetry can lead to transformative possibilities in diverse and multicultural classrooms."--BOOK JACKET.

This book brings together pioneering and evidence-based research that focuses on youth employment—one of the foremost development challenges of our time—and fills a critical research and knowledge gap alongside consolidating existing relevant literature. Comprehensive in scope, the book provides an overview of trends in youth employment in Bangladesh, empirically analyses the determinants of youth unemployment, covers relevant economic theory, and recommends policy measures for employment creation in Bangladesh. The new evidence from Bangladesh on the aforesaid issues will inform relevant and concurrent policy discourse, add value to related research in the field, and inspire future research. The insights gathered through this study will serve as an important lesson for other developing countries on what works and what does not in policy-making.
