For a 26-person advisory body variously described as “secretive,” “little known,” and “hardly ever heard of,” the American Medical Association’s (AMA) multispecialty Relative-Value Update Committee (RUC) has been receiving a great deal of attention in recent months. Jim McDermott, MD (D-Wash.), which seeks to add a new, second level of bureaucratic review on the relative value of physician services.
